KWV is one of South Africa’s leading wine and spirit producers, with an impressive international reputation and history. Its new owners brought in a winemaking team led by Wim Truter.
KWV has 72 growers from every region of the Western Cape so it has unrivalled access to all of South Africa’s wine regions and grape varietals, from cool climate Walker Bay Sauvignon to hot and arid
Swartland Shiraz. Its winemakers work closely with the vineyards and the results shine a light on South Africa’s amazing regional strengths.
They champion South African classics and off-beat varieties such as Grenache Blanc, Verdelho, Cinsaut, Petit Verdot, Tempranillo and Malbec.
Their methods are innovative too: KWV has pioneered and patented technology to produce sulphur-free wines using honey bush and Rooibos tea bark. Abraham Izak Perold (Pinotage Developer) joined the KWV in 1927 and made a huge contribution to the wine industry during his time there.
