Allesverloren Wine Estate

A Legacy Shaped by Time

Nestled on the slopes of Kasteelberg in the heart of the Swartland, Allesverloren is one of South Africa’s oldest wine estates. For more than three centuries, it has been a place where family, heritage and a deep respect for the land have come together to create something enduring.

Since its beginnings in 1704, the estate has witnessed generations of change while remaining true to the values that have defined it from the very beginning. Each chapter has added to the story of Allesverloren, creating a legacy that continues to evolve with every generation.

The Story Behind Our Name

The name Allesverloren, meaning “all is lost”, dates back to 1704.

At the time, travelling between the Swartland and Stellenbosch was a long and demanding journey by ox wagon, often taking several days. When the family returned from one of these trips, they discovered that their home had burned to the ground and the farm had been destroyed. Faced with the loss of everything they had built, they named the farm Allesverloren.

More than three centuries later, the name remains a reminder of the estate’s remarkable journey. What began as a story of loss has become one of endurance, renewal and a legacy that continues to grow with every generation.
