Alto Rouge

Cedar and pine needles, with dark fruit with blackcurrant and hints pf dried fennel on the palate
he Alto Rouge was first produced in 1919 and became an iconic red wine of South Africa in 1922 when it was sold on the Europe market.
This dark ruby wine consists of an exquisite blend of 5 varietals – Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Shiraz, Merlot and Petite Verdot. The blend varies each year depending on what nature gives us but it will always be majority Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Shiraz.
Bright, rich red, On the Nose, Cedar and pine needles dominate the nose with a touch of freshly crushed raspberries. With a palate of beautiful dark fruit with blackcurrant and hints pf dried fennel. The palate is muscular with streamlined, supple tannins and a lengthy finish. Excellent drinkability and aging potential.
Alto Rouge is loved by many in South Africa and is always a wine that is bought up when referencing SA red wine. It is the ideal everyday wine but has great ageing potential.
